Fulton County Planning Commissioner Tasneem Sierra says the reparations are a critical step in eliminating the racial wealth gap, as well as confronting the history of discrimination and inequality that still affects the African American community today.

The commission will begin by using funds from the federal American Rescue Plan, and other potential sources discussed are federal or state grants, private donations and partnerships with private companies.
