Opera Parallèle is set to present an expansive transgender showcase in August, according to Broadway World. The showcase, titled EXPANSIVE 2024, will feature a series of performances that highlight transgender stories and experiences.

This groundbreaking event will take place at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from August 15th to 18th. Some of the highlights include the world premiere of composer Laura Kaminsky’s “As One,” a chamber opera that tells the story of a transgender individual’s journey to self-acceptance.

Additionally, EXPANSIVE 2024 will feature panel discussions, workshops, and a film screening of the documentary “The Sound of Identity,” which follows transgender opera singer Lucia Lucas as she prepares to make history by playing the lead role in “Don Giovanni.”

Opera Parallèle’s Artistic Director, Nicole Paiement, expressed her excitement for the upcoming showcase, stating that it is an important opportunity to celebrate and amplify the voices of transgender artists. Tickets for EXPANSIVE 2024 are now available for purchase, with a limited number of seats due to COVID-19 restrictions.
