Portland General Electric wants to raise rates again
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland General Electric is seeking to raise rates once again, this time by an average of 4.6%.
This increase would add about $6.52 per month to the average residential customer’s bill. The company says the reason for the proposed rate hike is to cover costs related to investments in infrastructure, renewable energy projects, and increased operation and maintenance expenses.
If approved by the Oregon Public Utilities Commission, the rate increase would go into effect in January 2025.
This is not the first time Portland General Electric has sought to raise rates. In January, the company received approval for a 5.6% rate increase, which went into effect on January 1st.
Customers have until December 31st to provide feedback on the proposed rate increase. Public hearings will also be held in November for customers to voice their opinions.
Portland General Electric serves approximately 900,000 customers in Oregon.
